Home Sweet Home Part 2

It took a long time to get the house prepped and ready to lay the floors. We first had to paint all the walls and (big suprise) clean some more.

Here I am hard at work. ;) I didn't have a screwdriver.. so I used a knife to take off the outlet plates. I am so hardcore.

This is what we found when we pulled out the stove. Mmmm. That is not the knife I was using.. It was already there along with an egg shell, a baby spoon, refridgerator magnets and some lip gloss.
What is behind your stove? Makes you wonder huh?

Yuck!!
The new and improved fireplace!! Kurt had a lot of fun ripping out the other one. But he did not like having to patch up the big holes he made in the process.
It really does make a big difference in th room.

The view from the front door. Painting the entire house was quite the task. I helped as much as I could. I talked to my doctor and she said as long as it was well ventilated, I would be just fine. SO I just helped paint the main rooms with all the windows and doors open.We wanted to paint the walls before we put the floors in because who wants to paint on brand new wood floors... not me. I am not that coordinated to not spill or splatter on the floor.

The painted kitchen.

And we cannot let the outside get neglected. We got new lights! I love them.
We did a lot of work in the house. We bought it in the beginning of October and finally moved in about a week and a half before Thanksgiving.
You can almost taste the finish product I know it!

Home Sweet Home

As most of you know, Kurt and I bought our first house in October. We were so excited to be starting this new chapter in our already new lives of being married and expecting our first baby. Crazy?.. I think so.

The escrow office gave us a little bit of a run around when we were supposed to close. But they were paying any of the late fees, so we were not too upset about it. We were just anxious to get started on all the the work that was to be done in our new home. We only closed a few days after we were supposed to, but it seemed like an eternity because we had to wait over the weekend. We signed the contracts on a Thursday, but did not close escrow until Tuesday or Wednesday. I am not exactly sure on the days.

The real estate office was actually nice enough to give us the keys to our house when we signed the papers so we did not have to wait until we closed to start cleaning. Which was a process. We did not want to do any real demo or anything, just in case. We scrubbed and cleaned and disinfected everything in that house. It was pretty digusting. There was this layer of grease covering the entire kitchen. We really so not think that the previous owners cleaned a day that they lived here. And when I say that we cleaned, I mean that my mom, Barbie and Kim cleaned :) I did help, but not as much as I would have liked to. Chemicals and the first trimester of pregnancy do not mix so well.

Note to self: Do not let your husband take before pictures of your new home. He will only take specifics and no pictures of the entire space. :) He was the inspector and looked at every little detail.
The floors in the kitchen were supposed to be white.. or cream.. But they were a nice shade of dirt and grime and grease.
The hallway to our bedroom. The carpet was pretty disgusting in the house. The door on the left is the bathroom and the door on the right is the nursery. Straight ahead is the master.

This was the fireplace. It leaves something to be desired.
The nursery carpet. There are tire marks on the wall. We have come to the conclusion that they parked their motorcycles in the house.. in this room. And then proceeded to change the oil in said bikes. After talking to neighbors, they did indeed have motocycles that they brought in the front door. Anyone heard of the garage. We do have one.
The murder scene in the master closet. Notice the large red stain and the random missing square of carpet. No it was not a real murder scene, but it does make one wonder.
The entryway looking towards to front door. Those lights are in every room, the kitchen, and living room and hallway.

The division between the kitchen and the living room. Again with the missing carpet. There were several things in this house that just made us stand there and scratch our heads saying, "What the heck did the do in here?"

Another beautiful shot of the carpets that we had when we got the house.

And what do you do when your floors look like the above. You rip them out of course. Becuase who could put a baby on those floors. Even with an team of carpet cleaners, there was no was we were going to get all those stains out. The carpets had bleach spots on them where it looked like someone had maybe tried to clean the floors, but then again, maybe they were just bleach spots. We both agreed. The floors had to go.
Kurt and his friend Joe had the pleasure of doing that. I stayed far away from this project because we really had no idea what was under or in that carpet.
This is my husband breaking out the tile by the front door.
All loaded up and ready to be hauled off to the dump.
Remember that garage I was talking about, you know where you are supposed to park vehicles.

So that was the easy part.. and now the real work begins.

It's here!!!

My mother in law was nice enough to buy me a card reader! (I think she was just tired of me not blogging and making up excuses about it. ;)

So get ready for the flood of pictures that have been stored on my camera.

Goodbye...

Goodbye Little innie belly button. I will miss you as you are slowly disappearing. I know you will return one day after my beautiful sweet child is born, but for now.. you will be missed.

And on a lighter note (because the disappearing belly button is so tragic right?), I took this picture a few days ago when I was 27 weeks and 4 days. Belly is getting bigger! It is so weird to think I only have a little over 12 weeks left. There is so much to do!!!
The nursery has not even been started. I have, however, acquired all of the fabrics I am using for the crib set (Yes I am attempting to make my own. Am I nuts?) and picked out my crib, dresser and such to be ordered next week and should arrive within 4-6 weeks. I have paint picked out and my wonderful husband is ready to paint. ;) Hopefully we will tackle that this weekend, but I am not sure seeing as Sunday is Super Bowl and Saturday my husband and his friend are running a cable through the attic.

My baby shower is in the works and we have about a million other things we need to do before the end of April arrives. aaaaand it is already February. Oh boy!

Where do they come up with this?

I was reading random articles and came across this little gem...
It is marriage and dating according to kids. I just had to share. ;)

How would you make your marriage work?
Tell your wife that she looks pretty, even if she looks like a truck.
Ricky, age 10

How can a stranger tell if two people are married?
You might have to guess, based on whether they seem to be yelling at the same kids.
Derrick, age 8

What do you think your mom and dad have in common?
Both don’t want any more kids.
Lori, age 8

What do most people do on a date?
Dates are for having fun, and people should use them to get to know each other. Even boys have something to say if you listen long enough.
Lynnette, age 8 (isn’t she a treasure?)
On the first date, they just tell each other lies and that usually gets them interested enough to go for a second date.
Martin, age 10

What would you do on a first date that was turning sour?
I’d run home and play dead. The next day I would call all the newspapers and make sure they wrote about me in all the dead columns.
Craig, age 9

When is it okay to kiss someone?
When they’re rich.
Pam, age 7
The law says you have to be eighteen, so I wouldn’t want to mess with that.

Curt, age 7
The rule goes like this: If you kiss someone, then you should marry them and have kids with them. It’s the right thing to do.
Howard, age 8

What is the right age to get married?
Twenty-three is the best age because you know the person FOREVER by then.
Camille, age 10
No age is good to get married at. You got to be a fool to get married.
Freddie, age 6 (very wise for his age)

Is it better to be single or married?
I don’t know which is better, but I’ll tell you one thing. I’m never going to have sex with my wife. I don’t want to be all grossed out.
Theodore, age 8
It’s better for girls to be single but not for boys. Boys need someone to clean up after them.
Anita, age 9 (bless you child)

How do you decide whom to marry?
You got to find somebody who likes the same stuff. Like, if you like sports, she should like it that you like sports, and she should keep the chips and dip coming.
Alan, age 10
No person really decides before they grow up who they’re going to marry. God decides it all way before, and you get to find out later who you’re stuck with.
Kristen, age 10

I think my favorite is still the first one. LOL

What is to come...

Well, we moved into our new house about a week and a half ago and are loving it. We do not have any interent over there at the moment so I have not been in the bloggy world much. I check up on the blogs when I visit my mom's house, but everyone else updates their blog so I just spend my time reading other people's blogs. I will try to update a little later this week.

Here is a little glimpse of what has been going on in the Thompson household:

Kurt's dog that he had since he was little had to be put down a few weeks ago. She was very old and had very bad arthritis. She was in pain all the time and would not even lay down anymore. His parents took her to the vet to get her medicine and it helped for a couple days, but then she started to get these large lumps on her chest and stomach. We, and the doctor, think they were cancer. So we had to put her down. It was a sad day.

Then a week later on Saturday morning, our little Daisy got into something and started throwing up and eating grass to get it out of her system. We decided to watch her and maker sure she was drinking water. She was still not eating on Sunday and we thought that she was just still not feeling good, but she was drinking plenty of water. Well, then on Monday morning, I went into the bathroom to check on her. (We put her in the bathroom because the night before, she was still throwing up decided to throw up in one of my shoes.) I took her to the vet on Monday morning and they wanted to run some tests. When the results came back, her kidney enzymes were very high and the vet thought she might have kidney disease. We were devestated. She is our baby and I could not bear the thought of losing her. I was a wreck for several days. They put her on fluids because she was dehydrated. There were 2 possible problems they had explained to us, the first could be kidney disease, the second was that she was so dehydrated and that could make the levels in her blood so high. They took her blood again on Wednesday after she was on IV fluids for a few days and she turned out to be just fine, but she still was not eating much. We decided to leave her there for one more night and pick her up on Thanksgiving morning. We had a lot to be thankful for.

Speaking of Thanksgiving, Kurt and I hosted it this year in our new home. I was a crazy person for a few days between Daisy and getting the house ready for family to come over. Everything turned out great. Except that I did not cook the turkey long enough and had to put the half carved bird back in the oven for a bit. In my defense, I did everything I was supposed to. In the leg the fluids ran clear and it was the right temperature, just not at the bottom of the breast. I am glad we got that Honey Baked Ham too. ;) It was still a great evening with the family, which I do not have any pictures of because, like I said I was a crazy person. I get a little OCD when it comes to hosting functions. This time I was a little less particluar about it because my little Daisy was in the hospital and we were visiting her about 2-3 times a day.

Well that about covers it for the update.. except I am still trying to figure out which of these weird twinges and light cramps and flutters are baby moving and which are not. I wish there was a little sign that showed up to decipher which is baby and which is not. Hmm.. oh well. I am sure as baby gets bigger, I will be able to tell a lot better.

Sorry about the lack of pictures again, we moved our cameras over to the house and this is the only chance I had to blog. We should be setting up the computer soon and possibly getting internet before Christmas, but who knows. As soon and we have it, you will be the first to know. ;)

Quick post

I just got back from my doctor's appointment.. by the way thank you all so much for all yor advice and input, I really appreciate it. We decided to stay with our doctor since we have actually seen her and met with her. I like her, she has been nothing but nice to me and seems to truly care about answering my questions and concerns. When I posted about my confusion, I had only seen a nurse practitioner... Anyways, a little update on our growing little one. It's heartbeat is 156 today and was 165 last visit. (heartbeat of a girl perhaps?) We scheduled our ultrasound and are still not planning on finding out the gender. So guess all you like, but you will just have to wait until April. ;) We go in for the u/s on December 22nd. I will be 22 weeks then. We asked why it was at 22 weeks instead of 20, and she said something about not being far enough along and that I had to catch up to calender. I don't know, but we are just excited to have it done. So ya that is about it. Now I have a large pile of laundry that is unfortunately calling my name.
